Perched in prime real estate right next to Millennium Park, Tavern
at the Park (130 E. Randolph, 312.552.0070) has 20-foot
windows to showcase its superior surrounding views. Brought to
you by the team behind well-loved steakhouse Keefer's, the new
downtown restaurant is an elegantly appointed, two-story space
that pays homage to the taverns of the city. Managing partner
Peter de Castro has described the ambiance as "polished casual,"
explaining that he wants his new place to, "feel like home to
Chicago." The décor is defined by polished mahogany
wood, a granite-topped bar, tin ceilings and chocolate leather
booths.
Cooked up by native Chicagoan John Hogan (known for spots
like Everest and Kiki's bistro) ,the menu features American
fare Hogan calls "unfussy." With the collaboration of Chef de
Cuisine
Michael Cisternino (who has worked with Carmine's Rosebud Steakhouse
and Gioco), Hogan has filled his menu with options ranging
from chicken fondue to mussels doused in white wine and an open-face
prime rib sandwich. Tavern Teasers, a house signature,
is a glammed-up take on traditional sliders (think, blue-cheese
crusted filet mignon). Also look out for a Double-Cut Pork
Chop slathered in cherry-cola barbeque sauce.
Signature drinks include the Cloud Gate Martini, which
comes garnished with a sterling-silver bean necklace designed
by Elsa Peretti.
